Kids Run & Marathon
Register for the THRIFTY FOODS Kids Run & Marathon - Start: 10:15 a.m.
- Event is capped at 1,000. Register early to avoid disappointment.
- Route: 1.2 km. Starts on Kingston just off Menzies, on the west side of the Legislative Buildings, where the marathon and half marathon start. Kingston, right on Montreal, right on Quebec, left on Pendray, right on Belleville and finishing at the finish line in front of the Legislative Buildings. The kids will continue through the finish line into a corral on the driveway of the Legislative Buildings.

Who Is The 1.2km Run For?
All kids 12 years old or younger who wish to run or walk 1.2kms and for kids completing the last stage of the Kids Marathon (tracker) program. Parents can run alongside their child (age 9 and under) in the kids run; they do not have to register.
How Does the Kids Marathon Work?
Using the THRIFTY FOODS Activity and Eating Tracker, Kids Marathon participants can choose to complete 41 km prior to race day and run or walk the last 1.2 km on Sunday, October 10, 2010. They complete a “marathon” (42.2 km) as soon as they cross the finish line.
Thrifty Foods Activity and Healthy Eating Tracker
Track your activity and nutrition leading up to Sunday, October 10, 2010 and participate in the 1.2 km THRIFTY FOODS Kids Run!
Before race day, complete 41 km by tracking your activity. Run or walk your last 1.2 km on Sunday, October 10, 2010. Track your servings of fruits and veggies. Download a 2010 tracker or pick one up from any local Thrifty Foods location.
Have a teacher or parent initial the tracker as you complete the runs or walks.
Hand in your completed tracker at the RVM Race Expo for your Thrifty Foods Kids Marathon Finisher Certificate.
Timeline
Kids will cross the finish line as the last of the Half Marathoners are coming across the line and before the first Marathon finisher crosses. There is a kids Finish Corral after the finish line.
What Is The Cost?
$15 entry fee includes a T-shirt (100% cotton), goody bag, race number and medal. Goody Bag courtesy of THRIFTY FOODS.
- Draw Prizes
All children participating in the THRIFTY FOODS Kids Run & Marathon will have their name entered in a draw for one of four bikes provided by Oak Bay Bicycles. Children must be present at the start line to win.

- School Challenge
Schools that have 10 or more children entered in the Kids Run prior to September 23 will have their school name printed on the back of their race shirt. The school with the most participants registered by noon on October 7 will win $500 worth of sports equipment for their school. Each child will pick up their shirt and race package at the RVM Race Expo.

Where Do We Pick Up Our Shirts And Goody Bags?
You can pick up your child's shirt, race number and goody bag at the RVM Race Expo held at the Victoria Conference Centre on Friday, Oct 8 from 3:00 - 7:30 p.m. or Saturday, Oct 9 from 9:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m. The pickup location will be inside the Expo area at the KidSport booth. Kids packages are not available on Race Day.
Can I Register On Race Day?
No. Registration ends at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 9 at the Victoria Conference Centre.
Proceeds To KidSport
All proceeds from the THRIFTY FOODS Kids Run & Marathon go to KidSport Greater Victoria, a local branch of a national and provincial organization that raises funds locally and distributes them to children of financially disadvantaged families to assist with registration fees for sport and physical activity. Funds are allocated equally to boys and girls, and to date they have assisted with registration in a variety of sports including soccer, hockey, gymnastics, karate, lacrosse, skating, football, swimming, baseball and softball. TRAINING TIPS
- TIP #1 - Warm up & stretch
Warm up before you start running - it's important. Run, jump, skip or hop before you start.
- TIP #2 - Increase your flexibility
Do some bending, stretching, reaching and climbing during the day to increase your flexibility and help your body move more easily.
- TIP #3 - Consistency is key
Be consistent, building up your running slowly over several weeks and months.
- TIP #4 - Tie your shoes
Properly laced up running shoes help to protect your feet.
- TIP #5 - Rest and recover.
Sleep, rest and recovery between runs is very important for your body to repair and get ready for the next run.
- TIP #6 - Drink plenty of water.
Drink lots of water; eating fruit and vegetables during the day gives the body energy to help you run faster.
